Shop – December 18
Online or offline, where did you spend most of your mad money this year?
So, I used to be a shopper. I mean, I loved shopping. But since Dave started grad school (and finished grad school) and since living with making a lot less money, I’ve learned to buy what I need and when it comes down to it, don’t enjoy shopping quite as much as I once did (this is a good thing!). Sure, I still love going on a shopping spree now and then but that rarely happens. So, where did I spend most of my mad money this year? I really have no idea. Where would I like to spend it? Probably etsy or the Apple store (on this).
Car ride – December 19
What did you see? How did it smell? Did you eat anything as you drove there? Who were you with?
The best car ride of the year was our ride out to New Mexico in March (?). The highlight probably (though scary) was driving down to the Gila Cliff Dwellings. We passed through lots of small towns like this:
… on our way to Silver City (strange, strange town – we ate Mexican food at a weird place with delicious food) where we stayed the night before heading out to the cliff dwellings:
Next road trip? Hmmmm. Arizona, Colorado, California? The biggest difference will the be the added addition to the trip… Maybe next summer!
New person – December 20
She came into your life and turned it upside down. He went out of his way to provide incredible customer service. Who is your unsung hero of 2009?
The new person is “Little One”, by far, without a doubt! They have turned our lives upside down in an incredible way and we can’t wait until they emerge in March but they’ve been with us since June. More on this to come…
Project – December 21
What did you start this year that you’re proud of?
Started and finished Kerilyn & Peter’s invitations and “wedding collateral” for lack of a better word/description. I think it all came out amazing. Take a look here:
There are some other projects that I really dug this year, but I think this was my favorite.
Startup – December 22
What’s a business that you found this year that you love? Who thought it up? What makes it special?
I am really liking a (non-profit) business called Lightshare. The founder is an amazing and understated woman and the woman who work with her are equally as impressive. I’m working on the design for their brand spanking new site (hopefully will be able to disclose it soon) and have been enjoying the work. They go into communities and figure out what kind of social programs would benefit the community. Then then institute these programs while teaching the community itself how to maintain and expand these programs. Exciting and a great addition to these communities!
Web tool – December 23
It came into your work flow this year and now you couldn’t live without it. It has simplified or improved your online experience.
Klok. I use it for all of my freelance work but am on not on my laptop at the moment and can’t remember the name. It’s at time-tracker that’s simple and easy to use and that lets you comment, add notes, and archive. I’ll post Here’s the link later. It rocks!
Learning experience – December 24
What was a lesson you learned this year that changed you?
It will never be the “perfect time” for anything and it’s a waste to wait for it to be or to try to mold it to be “perfect”. Go with it in the now and it will all work out.
Gift – December 25
What’s a gift you gave yourself this year that has kept on giving?
Nothing time. Time to do nothing (guilt-free). Since finding out I was pregnant in July I have allowed myself nothing time. I’ve let myself just lie or sit or watch a trashy show on my computer or surf blogs or read. It makes a huge difference and now I hope I can keep that habit going. It’s a replenishing habit.
Insight or aha! moment – December 26
What was your epiphany of the year?
Still thinking on this one… Epiphany, huh?
Social web moment – December 27
Did you meet someone you used to only know from her blog? Did you discover Twitter?
I didn’t discover Twitter this year but I began using it more and networking more and hope to continue that into 2010. Twitter can rock for freelancers and I plan to put that to use! It’s also a fun way to connect to people locally and I’ve loved that aspect of it too even though I use it in waves ranging from not at all to obsessively.
Stationery – December 28
When you touch the paper, your heart melts. The ink flows from the pen. What was your stationery find of the year?
Nothing yet, but this prompt has inspired me to find it and to write some letters.
Laugh – December 29
What was your biggest belly laugh of the year?
I can’t think of a specific moment unfortunately, but generally speaking, pregnancy makes me laugh! It makes me crack up on a regular basis to the point of stomach pain (or something else not very pleasant but also funny in itself) and tears. Keep it coming! I would love to keep this new personality trait (is it a personality trait?) after the baby arrives.
This has been a Best of 2009 Blog Challenge moment.
