- On a related note, lack of exercise
- Negative thinking
- Short fuse
- Lack of action toward goals
- Missing Asheville
- Wasted time
- ANY non-organic dairy and meat (we are usually excellent at this but this recent move has made it more difficult)
- Unnecessary purchases (Ask “Will this improve my life? Will I use it?”)
How will I eliminate them? Awareness, choice and action. How will they change my life? They will free me, make me more productive, give me time, make me feel lighter, make me healthier, make me richer, and more.
*I can’t honestly eliminate procrastination but I can tone it down a bit.

This question made me feel uncomfortable when I first read it. I even considered skipping it! This may be because lately I’m not feeling as different as I normally do and I’m not a fan of feeling the “same” as anything. But I am different. I embrace different. I question. I am a truth seeker. I am blunt. To a fault at times. I question. I am not content with the status quo. In fact, people who are either make me uncomfortable or they just irritate me. I am excruciatingly observant. I notice things that many people may not see.

Where have you discovered community, online or otherwise, in 2010? What community would you like to join, create or more deeply connect with in 2011?

This past year I have discovered community in two areas: creative groups of people and mothers, mainly online. The mother community is a powerful one. I think I made my way into it while I was pregnant. There were several moments that were especially moving, moving in the way that mothers embrace soon-to-be mothers and new mothers. It’s amazingly inclusive and loving. Yes, there is also the judgmental side to this community of women, but I have been lucky enough to barely encounter that.
In general, community tends to be an elusive thing for me so it’s been nice to belong to these two communities, though now that we’ve moved to middle-of-nowhere-Pennsyltucky I need to find community offline. Real life people. Sitting. Talking. Sharing. In person. It’s a goal for 2011.
Another thing, a very, very, very important thing that I need to work on letting go of.
Mainly in the form of: facebook, twitter, random internet surfing. Yes, the internet is a wonderful, inspiring place and I love facebook and twitter but I think I need a little moderation so that I can actually get things done in the limited time that I do have to do things. Real things. Non status update type things.

Make. What was the last thing you made? What materials did you use? Is there something you want to make, but you need to clear some time for it?

This question can have so many answers, so many meanings. The last thing I made was a leek quiche the other night for dinner. Softly sauteed leeks wafted earthy soft scents through the kitchen. I love the way chopped leeks look! So perfectly shaped, perfectly colored. Whites blending in with soft greens and deepening to a dark green. Small pieces of dirt still left on some pieces mingles with the perfect, clean shapes. And the flavor. Ahhhh. Delicious. Eggs, swiss, leeks and a bit of onion. I may have gone a bit overboard on the nutmeg this time, but still delicious.
Other things that I’ve recently made: websites, block towers, stories, peace, trouble, laughs, home.
And something(s) I want to make but need time to make: a secret gift, a baby book, redesigned website for myself, redesigned website for Dave

Let Go. What (or whom) did you let go of this year? Why?
Uninterrupted sleep. Not by choice. A baby will do this to you. At first, it felt impossible. Zombie-like. Then, it got easy. Then, we got sleep back. Then, lost it again. I suspect this may be the case for a few more years. It’s funny how your body can adjust to this seemingly impossible habit of waking up every three hours, every two hours. But I dream of 8 hours of solid sleep. Daydream, obviously.
